Shakeaway
G/F Phase 2, UPTown Center, Katipunan Ave., Diliman, Quezon City

After using up the GCs I won from Manila Creamery, we agreed to extend our dessert to include Shakeaway on our UP Town Center conquest for that day.

When we arrived, almost all tables were occupied, except for one, and so we settled and discussed our orders. We initially debated on trying out the millionaire's milkshake, but ended up ordering their best selling milkshake and yogurt. EJ was the one who lined up and ordered for the group.
While EJ was lining up, I started to observe the atmosphere of this shop. Shakeaway was able to lure in people and groups of all ages. There were families (with toddlers), barkadas, couples, etc. The interior of the place, however, is less than okay. It's as if the walls were just covered with big tarpaulins with photos of their milkshakes. Wooden floor, tables and chairs that are all white, lightings that are all fluorescent. The only thing I liked about it is the stack of storage for their ingredients. It's cool how you'll be able to imagine the loads of combinations you can have seeing all of these ingredients behind the counter. It also sort of excites you and makes you want to peek, like a child in a candy shop.

After a few minutes, EJ came walking back with our desserts. We tried the milkshake first, followed by the yogurt.
DAVE P 390 (large)

(Ferrero Rocher and Kinder Bueno topped with crumbled Cadbury flakes)

Just seeing this description already made me drool, because I loooove all these chocolates (especially Kinder Bueno). We were provided with straws with wide, spoon-like ends, supposedly (I believe) to aid in the sipping process. We found it difficult to use, but it eventually gave in and we finally got a sip and it was... meh.. The thickness of the milkshake was poor. There were also small, flaky chocolates in every sip, which I think is from the ferrero's coating. It's an insult to the chocolates involved. They can do better.

John Yogurt P190
(Banana and honey with crunchy mixed nuts)
Since their best seller for the yogurt is also full of chocolates, EJ chose the next best available, and this was it. Upon first bite the first thing I was able to notice was the texture of the yogurt. It wasn't smooth. It's as if there was more ice than any other ingredient in the making of the yogurt. It was also bland. The banana and the nuts didn't make much of a difference in the dessert. This was really plain.

For the price we paid for the milkshake and the yogurt, I'm sure I'm better off if I spent it on other desserts. It will take a lot of convincing to make me spend my money on this again. It's not impossible, but it'll take time. Perhaps they will improve once the hype drops and they can finally concentrate on the quality of their food.

My score:
Pricing – 2/5
Service – 4/5
 Ambiance – 3/5
Taste – 3/5
