A new, much awaited catch has arrived not just for foodies like me, but for all seafood lovers out there. Hook is finally here! And we were sooo lucky to have been the first winners of two dozens of fresh oysters from their instagram contest.

Hook's ambiance is similar to that of Pound's, starting from the black linings of the doors and arc-shaped windows on the outside, down to the dim lightings, black and gold chairs and marbled tables that filled their simple yet sophisticated interiors. You also can't miss a long display of their freshest seafood, and their portholes/ circular windows usually found on ships.

Oysters!!!

(I think this is just the second time I tried eating oysters, so I'm not really used to its taste)

Imagine winning 2 dozens of this glorious, majestic, and not to mention insanely expensive shellfish?! Our fish dozen was served RAW, which I am NOT a fan of, but I still gave it a try. With some lemons and coriander lime granita, one bite wasn't lethal to someone who doesn't eat raw, but the strong after-taste of the shellfish is something I should really get used to. Good thing my friend Christina was there :D

Baked Oysters

We had 6 pieces of our oysters baked for an additional P20 per piece. It still had a slight after-taste even if it was already baked and topped with cheese, but I can say that I liked the flavors of the raw one better than this. This had a bit of a generic taste. I think oysters are really best when raw.

Salmon Poke P420
I'm starting to get the hang of eating raw salmon, especially if it's showered with different kinds of juices that bring out its flavor. Hook's salmon poke had some sweet and salty sauces, with just a hint of acid, served in a beautiful, white, coconut bowl. It was good.

Shrimp on the Rocks P450

Shrimp cooked in a pot filled with hot rocks and rosemary herbs. You'll find yourself in love with the tea-like aroma of the herbs every time you lift that lid. The shrimp wasn't able to embrace much of it, though (probably because we left the pot open to take photos), but I still found every piece of it delicious.

Crab Head Gratin P430
Heavy and creamy crab and fish meat that looked like coleslaw, topped with some generous amounts of cheese. I found the flavors of this too dense, so we thought that an added acidity could have helped balance the flavors more. Also, I kept getting a taste of wasabi in it, which is probably why I didn't appreciate it that much.

Service was remarkable. Staff were so friendly and accommodating even to the things we haven't even requested yet.

Hook guarantees only the finest and freshest seafood in town. In here, you get what you pay for.
