Mamma Mia at Uptown Bonifacio

by - Friday, September 14, 2018

My high school friends and I just came from a mini reunion when we decided we needed to schedule another one that's happening a week later. Since we wanted to support our friend's business at Uptown Bonifacio, we figured we can have our dinner there.

There are a lot of restaurants in this mall, most of which are new, so we had a hard time choosing just one. But after enumerating each restaurant that we could try, we ended up with Mamma Mia because of a friend's recommendation.

Complimentary Bread with Three Dips
We were extremely happy with the complimentary bread that was served to us while ordering, too happy that we had to ask for another basket when we learned that we actually can! We didn't care if we get too full from these babies. We loved devouring them with each dip. My favorite was the one with the balsamic vinegar.
Mozzarella Bites P350
The mozzarella bites also took us by surprise, as it was a ball of soft, gooey cheese, coated with a thin layer of breadcrumbs, and drizzled and served with a creamy white sauce.

Frittura di Calamari E Gamberi P450/810
Ordering the calamari has always been a  gamble for me because I normally get the chewy, rubbery ones, but I'm sure glad we had Mamma Mia's. These light coated and deep fried squid ring and shrimps were soft and easy to bite, perfectly seasoned, oh, and they came with mayonnaise and marinara sauce.

6 Cheese Pizza
Are you a fan of the stuffed crust pizza? Well, this pizza from Mamma Mia is topped with different kinds of cheeses, and oh, they hid more cheese in that crust, so if you're the type of person who leaves the crust untouched, make sure you eat it this time.

Spaghetti Carbonara alla Mamma Mia P485 (solo) P1,520 (sharing)
The carbonara is Mamma Mia's specialty, and perhaps why it's also quite expensive. I liked their carbonara, but I am not convinced that it is worth this much. Also, if you're coming as a group, it's best to remember that their sharing size is really really huge.

Ravioli Spinaci E Ricotta P435/P1,460

Homemade ravioli stuffed with spinach and ricotta in cream based sauce. We actually had the sharing size of the ricotta, but we were able to have two variants. I was just not able to take a photo of the other one - which was the one with mushrooms. I'm not sure which one I liked more, but I definitely was not a fan of any, probably because I lost the appetite for it since it's the 4th cream based food we had that night.

Paella Negra P570
One of my friends loves a good paella negra, and she was very skeptic about having one from this restaurant. Good thing we were both impressed. Their paella was topped with calamari, shrimp, and egg, and drizzled with homemade Italian mayo. Make sure you squeeze that lemon slice to complement the dense flavor of the squid ink. A serving is good for 2-3 persons.
Chocolate Cake
For everything we ordered (take note, we also ordered crispy pata, which I was not able to take a photo of), and for the bill we were about to pay, it kinda makes sense that we were given a free slice of chocolate cake. And if you're thinking about having desserts, you might want to get a slice, too.
