An Unforgettable Valentine's Day 2021

Valentine's day has got to be my favorite day to celebrate with my special someone. And because I love discovering different restaurants, my boyfriend loves planning our date and looking for restaurants we can both enjoy. So for Valentine's day 2021, he took me to Vieux Chalet.

Vieux Chalet is a Swiss restaurant in Antipolo that is known for their delicious food, amazing ambiance, and good view. It's a restaurant I've been wanting to try but have not really planned on visiting soon because of their pricey menu, so I was really ecstatic when my boyfriend chose to bring me here for Valentine's, and, spoiler alert, it was definitely worth the try. Read more if you want to know why.

We ordered the set menu good for 2 people, which costs P3,200. It includes a salad, an appetizer, mains, desserts, and drinks.

Soup or Salad? Since my boyfriend is not impressed by soups, we opted for the salad and it's definitely a good start! We were given our own salad bowls filled with greens and dressed in a light, refreshing dressing. It was really good. It's simple yet delicious.

We were also given this complimentary plate of chip and dip. It was also really good, although I only got to eat a piece before our next dish arrived.

Appetizer or Pasta? I was craving for pasta that day, so we did not even check out the appetizers we can choose from and decided to go for the pasta of the day. It was a puttanesca pasta with slices of steak, served with 2pcs of bread, cheese, and a tiny cheese grater. It was my favorite dish from the entire menu. I really loved it.

Smoked Pork Chop in Mushroom Sauce

Pink Norwegian Salmon in Sauce Cafe de Paris

Mains: Fish or Meat? For mains, you can choose between the fish (salmon or tuna), and the meat (chicken or pork chop). You can choose your 2 from the mains, so we opted to try the salmon and the pork chop. They were both served with a huge hashbrown, and both were served in 2 pieces, which made sharing each plate a lot easier.

The pink Norwegian salmon was cooked to perfection! It was not  dry, which is the most basic thing I look for in any salmon dish. The smoked pork chop, served with veggies and mushroom sauce (choice between mushroom sauce or Sauce Cafe de Paris), was huge, very tender, and also good. It was not the taste I was expecting, since it tasted very similar to a ham (slightly sweet), but still delicious.

Dessert. The set comes with a dessert of your choice, plus coffee or tea. I chose to try their ricotta cheesecake, while my boyfriend ordered their carrot cake. We also got their tea to wash down everything. First, the burnt homemade ricotta cheesecake ala mode was dense, just the way I like it. It also had some caramelized sugar on top that added a burnt and sweet taste. The carrot cake, on the other hand, was so moist.

The set also comes with these cute, refreshing drinks that had a slight hint of ginger in them.

All of these cost P3,200 (P3,600 with wine pairing), and it was worth it. It's been weeks since we went here, yet I still can't forget our experience, and how delicious and filling the food was.

You need a reservation prior to visiting the restaurant. They also require a reservation fee of P1,000, which they will deduct from your total bill.

  1. Went there today during lunchtime, as much as I'd like to agree with this blog, I find it very hard to rate 5/5 in pricing and taste (primarily, taste).

We ordered salmon and steak for the entree, the salmon was just like how you described it, tender and moist, a real 5/5. However, the steak was bad. Really bad. it just tastes like burnt meat. Its no match for the steak at Silantro(UP Town Center). Not even close.
Can't argue with your preference on the cheesecake, but for someone who knows how to make a cheesecake, that was horrible. Its meant to be so soft that it melts in your mouth.

The ambiance was really great tho, as well as the topnotch service. Ooooo, the restrooms are perfect too!

Don't get me wrong, we're not picky eaters, normal lang din kaming mamamayang pilipino. We can also relate to the feels because we're also there for a special day, our anniversary. But I think the more realistic rating would be

Pricing - 3/5 (Because the food doesn't taste as much as their worth)
    Service - 5/5 (Perfect service)
Ambiance - 5/5 (Perfect Instagrammable Fancy place)
Taste - 2/5 (Some are good)

    1. That's too bad! Sorry to hear that you did not have a great experience like we did. I guess they are not that consistent then. The cheesecake during my visit was good. It was smooth. Not sure how yours tasted if it's not the melt in your mouth kind. Thanks for sharing your experience with Vieux Chalet.
