The Wine Club in Makati

by - Thursday, August 09, 2018

The Wine Club is a hip, neighbourhood winebar situated in one of the quieter streets in Makati. It's a good place to spend a night tasting over 300 wines from California, France, and Australia, and enjoy pairing them with the delectable bistro food available.

Wagyu salpicao strips P595
The wagyu beef salpicao was different from what I expected a "salpicao" to be, and in a good way. The dish tasted like a yakiniku, especially with the beef strips and the sweet and salty marinade. Best paired with: Dado Cabernet Sauvigmon

Grilled Sausage Platter P750
The grilled sausage platter consisted of 3 kinds of sausages, and served with 2 dips. I was only able to taste one of the sausages (and I can't remember which one), and it had a nice touch of saltiness to it. Best paired with: Cline

Grilled Wagyu Flat Iron Steak P850
The grilled wagyu flat iron steak was the highlight of our nights. Of course, steak is the most popular dish to be paired with wine, and this steak was just perfect. Sure, it was a bit underseasoned, but it was nothing  a small pinch of himalayan salt can't fix. Best paired with: Bogl Cabernet

Milanesa Napolitana P850
Something similar (or practically the same) to the parmigiana was the milanesa napolitana. It's breaded beef fried to a golden color, topped with cheese and tomato sauce, and served with potato wedges on the side. Best paired with: Esser

Pepperoni Flatbread P550
One of the newest members of The Wine Club's menu is the pepperoni flatbread. It's a flatbread, but it turned out to be more like a thin crust pizza topped with cheese and pepperoni. Best paired with: Bogle

Vanilla Ice Cream with Wine-Infused Chocolate Sauce
We had a surprise dessert that night. It looked so plain and simple, but it was the perfect way to end our dinner. We were served with a bowl with vanilla ice cream drizzled with chocolate sauce made with Zinfandel wine. I just loved how the creamy ice cream went so nice with the minty, wine-infused chocolate sauce.

So if you ever find yourself in Makati, don’t forget to drop by The Wine Club and have a wine tasting with the 300 options of wine they have available. Or if you like sipping that glass of wine in the comforts of your home, you can also bring home a bottle of your choice under P1,000.
