I discovered this new unlimited BBQ and Hotpot a few months back, when my brother was looking for a good place to eat shabu-shabu and turned to me for suggestions.

Last Saturday, I was invited by a friend to have dinner with them at Ayala Malls Circuit. She mentioned that she wanted to have shabu-shabu since she wasn't feeling very well, and that's when it hit me. I sent her screenshots of the restaurant's menu and we later agreed that this is the place we want to find ourselves in for that night.

Zhu-Ge Jia offers both unlimited BBQ and hotpot under one roof. They have unlimited BBQ from P449 per person, unlimited hotpot from P799 per person, and a combination of both from P1,099 per person.

We were looking forward to the restaurant's hotpot, but we also craved for the BBQ which made us change our minds on the last minute. We gave Zhu-Ge Jia's unlimited BBQ offer a try.

The unlimited BBQ package includes unlimited sides, soup, rice, lettuce, and 9 meat choices. They also give out slices of garlic upon request. You can enjoy all of these without any time limits!

Their initial serving of meat consisted of the beef short plate, beef top round, beef round steak, pork belly with secret spices, and fresh pork belly.

For the beef selection, we were happy with the beef short plate alone. It's not hard to love since it wasn't tough, and it's the meat we usually order in other BBQ places. The other beef choices were chewy.

We also got to try the BBQ marinated beef, which had a delicious, yakiniku marinade, although the beef used wasn't to our liking.

I am not usually a fan of pork when having unlimited BBQ, but I was up for their well seasoned pork belly with secret spices.

Unlimited Sides
Like other unli Samgyupsal places, Zhu-Ge Jia offers unlimited sides. This includes a spicy soup, which to be honest, wasn't as delicious as I hoped it would be. Nevertheless, it was okay. The kimchi and baby potatoes were great, though.

Zhu-Ge Jia uses a rectangular grill. What they do is they place a paper on the grill and drizzle some oil on top before you can start cooking. The problem we had with this is that the paper easily burns, so asking for a change in paper more than once is inevitable. Another issue we had was that the paper held all the oils coming from the meat, which makes the meat bathe in their oil. Imagine consuming all those oils that were supposed to fall down the grill. It's bothersome, even for someone who is not much of a health-conscious such as myself.

There's no doubt that we had an enjoyable dinner despite the issues we encountered. The best part was, we didn't have to line up for hours just to get a seat. I do hope that Zhu-Ge Jia will start to offer their unlimited combination (BBQ and hotpot) at a more affordable price soon, so we can have both at the same time!
