Royal Indian Curry House in Eastwood City

My visit to this restaurant last Sunday has brought me to a very simple yet meaningful realization ~ the messier you eat, the more enjoyable your meal will be!
Royal Indian Curry House (RICH) is the first restaurant that comes into mind when I feel like eating Indian food. I haven't really been to this restaurant before, but reading all those good reviews and feedbacks about it fueled my desire to set foot in one of their branches soon.

And that day eventually came. I was so thrilled. After all, I was finally getting a tasate of authentic Indian cuisine, and all the excitement and the high expectations proved to be highly called for.

Before we go into the dishes that I’ve tried, let me first mention about the trio of sauces that are sure to heighten every dish’s taste.

These are the tamarind sauce (sweet and sour), the mint sauce (my fave! This gives the dish an added herby taste), and the chili sauce (for those who want to add fire to their food).

Vegetable Samosa P179
Vegetable Samosa P179
We started our sumptuous meal with the vegetable samosa. It's a puff pastry filled with potatoes and peas, which is why it was such a heavy appetizer for me. A serving has 4 pieces, but you'll have a hard time finishing just one, I assure you.

Roti Chennai P299
Roti Chennai P299
I can't remember how many times I told my company how much I loved the roti chennai. It's a flatbread served with curry sauce. It looks plain and simple but it's incredibly addicting. It's a dish I'll surely order on my next visit.

Chollay Bhature P389
The chollay bhature seemed a lot similar to the roti chennai , except that its bread is a lot airy and soft, and that its sauce had lots of chickpeas in it. It's a good start for those who love chickpeas, or those who love dips with chunky pieces.

Pani Puri P199
Pani Puri P199

Pani Puri P199
I like to think of the pani puri as a croquette just because of the fact that it is round and stuffed with potatoes. But other than that, this Indian street food is way different. It has a shell-like crust that is thin and crisp, which is then filled with potatoes and the trio of sauces, followed by  the masala water (a mixture of lemon, water, and other herbs). It’s a small, one-bite dish that packs a burst of flavors.

Murg Makhani P459
The murg makhani, or what they call as butter chicken, was one of the highlights of my visit to RICH. I loved how it had a nice, curry-like taste with a hint of creaminess and spice. l enjoyed it best with the butter naan, but I also got to try eating it with plain rice at home and it also worked.

Palak Paneer P419
Palak paneer is a dish made of cottage cheese cubes (paneer) and spinach sauce. It may seem like something only a vegetarian eats, but it really tastes nothing like vegetables. Make sure to order butter naan (P169) as well, so you can eat both of them together.

Tandoori Chicken P419
Tandoori chicken is the dish from the Indian cuisine that I hear very often but don't know much about. As explained to me, tandoori chicken is like the chicken barbeque from Indian cuisine, but after having a taste of it, sorry, but it's just incomparable in terms of taste. I get why it's compared to a chicken barbeque given its smoky taste, but it also had all those flavors from spices and herbs that the former does not.

Hyderabadi Biryani P639
The hyderabadi biryani is a basmati rice dish with cubes of rib chops and lamb, served in a pot with thin pastry. I've tried basmati rice prior to this visit, and I didn't like it as it was dry, but the biryani from RICH was very different! It wasn't dry AT ALL, and it was flavorful, and had lots of meat. It's perfect when mixed with their yogurt sauce.

Gulab Jamun P169
I know what you're thinking, but no, this is not a kwek-kwek. This is the gulab jamun. It's an Indian dessert that'll make anyone tilt their heads with curiosity. It's actually a soft and sweet dessert made of milk, and served with some syrup.

Kulfi P249
If the Italians have gelato, then the Indians have the kulfi. It's their version of ice cream, and there are no other flavors except the one I had. It tastes a lot like ice cream, texture and all, except that it had a hint of ginger, sweetened milk, and nuts.

Mango Lassi P229
For drinks, I got to try their mango lassi, which is their version of a mango shake, but with yogurt.

Masala Tea P199
And if they have a shake, they also have milk tea in the form of masala tea. It's hot, but it's still a fusion of milk and tea, but only with some ginger. You can enjoy it without sugar, but I preferred it with a pack of Splenda as the taste of the tea was really strong. It wasn't bad, really!

The serving of all the food at RICH are good for sharing, so it's best to eat here in a group. The dishes are also a bit pricey, but since the servings are huge and the taste is great, I'd say it's a great value for money.

They also have promos you can take advantage of on your visit!

I came to RICH with so much excitement and high expectations, and to be honest, I did not expect it to go as well as I imagined, but it did! Not only did this restaurant meet my expectations, it EXCEEDED it. Needless to say, their food had my mind blown. Indian cuisine is certainly on the top of my favorite cuisines now, thanks to Royal Indian Curry House.
