Southbank Cafe + Lounge in Alabang

by - Tuesday, October 22, 2019

There’s no such thing as North or South to me for as long as food is concerned. I have traveled far north just to try out new restaurants, but I have rarely been far south for my foodventures, unless it’s something that’s really worth my time (and toll LOL)! So let me, a girl from the south, take you further South for a whole new gastronomic experience.

Southbank Cafe + Lounge is a Melbourne-inspired restaurant in Westgate, Alabang. With a modern minimalist design, the restaurant emanates an ultimately chill vibe in the morning that can quickly transform into the perfect party place at night.

They offer a wide selection of food and drinks, from all-day breakfast to bar chows; and from excellent quality coffee down to the most exquisite cocktails.

Southbank Pancakes P390

Their pancakes are unlike most of the ones you've tried since you were a child. Its sweetness not just comes from the maple syrup, but also from the mixed berries that goes with the entire dish. The sorbet on top also balances out all the sweetness and the edible flowers make it extra appetizing!

Granola Bowl P320

As an alternative to the pancakes, another sweet but light breakfast you can also order is their granola bowl, which is made with rolled oats, granola, dehydrated fruits, chia, and their housemade yogurt, which was really the game-changer for this simple breakfast bowl.

Croquettes P350

Truffle fans will be extremely happy with the croquettes they have here. These are made with potato, cheese, and truffle, and fried to a golden crisp. Well, not as crispy as you would expect, but its filling was melt-in-your-mouth soft, plus its creaminess goes well with the truffle.

Flat Bread P290

The flatbread may be the last thing you would think of ordering at this restaurant, but think again. It's the best combination you would want to be served on a bread: pesto, mozzarella, ricotta, arugula, tomato, balsamic, and alfalfa. Be sure to add some prosciutto in there, too, and think of having all those components in each bite. Tasty, huh?

Nachos P380

What's a bar without nachos? From the picture, it just looks like your typical nacho toppings ~ pulled pork, salsa, jalapeño, but wait 'til you get a taste of their garlic cheese sauce!

Beetroot Hummus P360

I hate beetroot. It always tasted so earthy to me, so the beetroot hummus did not at all seem inviting to me, but it's one of my favorites from this restaurant. The hummus is a combination of chickpeas and beetroot, so you won't really get to taste the beets (thank goodness!), and also comes with some cream cheese in the middle that when you combine altogether makes one heck of a delicious finger food! I highly recommend this!

❤ Ricotta Salad P390

This is pretty unusual, but I really loved their ricotta salad! It's got two of my favorite ingredients as its main components: arugula and ricotta cheese!

36 hour Belly Bowl P420

The 36hour belly bowl is actually one of their bestsellers. It's got three huge pork belly cuts with alternating layers of meat and fat that were marinated in a sweet soy sauce. It's good, although they will be offering other flavors soon ~ the Sriracha, and hickory BBQ, which were both as good, so you might want to ask if you can try those on your visit.

❤ Southbank Burger P580

Thick. Juicy. Flavorful. All those are the words to describe the perfect burger, which is precisely what the Southbank burger was to me. Not only was the patty itself good, but it's joined by some seriously hard-to-say-no-to flavors, thanks to the bacon jam and truffle mayo.

❤ Salmon Aburi Bowl P620

As they say, save the best for last, so here it is - the salmon aburi bowl! This is the perfect lunch for those who are trying to be more conscious of what they eat and at the same time does not want to feel so weak from eating lighter meals. It's made with multi-grain rice, a generous amount of salmon flakes, sweet soy, and Dojunbang mayo. It doesn't really look like much in the photo, and I wish there was a way for me to make it look even half as good as it tastes because this photo does not give justice to this sumptuous dish!

I don't drink, but since I am writing about this cafe that also has a bar, I included some drinks you might want to check out.

Fish Eye P380

The fisheye is also called the ladies' favourite. It's a concoction made with golden rum, sour citrus juice, and sweet lychee.

Boulevardier

The boulevardier is a new cocktail that hasn't even been added on the menu yet. I can't comment on how it tastes, but I was told that it's made with one of the best Bourbons in the U.S. So if you're a fan of Michter's bourbon, then you might want to get a glass of this cocktail.

Matcha Latte P170

I heard their coffee is really good. They use Allpress espresso beans from Australia, but since I don't drink coffee, I opted to try their matcha latte instead. It's not as strong as most matcha enthusiasts out there want, but it's just the right blend for me. The iced coffee P190 is also a must-try especially with the ice cream on top as it was SOOO GOOD!!!

Nothing they do here is simple. Every concept has an explanation, every dish goes through an intricate process from firing up the stove down to the plating. So yes, the food seems a bit over our normal budget for food, but it's a price I'm willing to pay for the upscale dining experience I am getting.
