The Overwhelming Food Choices at Okada's Medley Buffet

by - Saturday, October 19, 2019

The last dining experience I've had with Okada did not out so great. Everything did not go as I expected, so when Zomato invited me to try another one of their restaurants, I was skeptic, but of course I wanted to give them another chance at redemption, and Okada sure knows how to bounce back from a defeat.

Medley is Okada’s buffet restaurant. I have known about it for a while now but have not had any good reasons for me to visit them until last Tuesday night.

I was overwhelmed with the variety of dishes and cuisines they offer, and was extremely happy that they have most (if not all) of the dishes I’m looking forward to having in a buffet! Let me share with you a few photos I took from their buffet spread.

They have lots of seafood to choose from. You can also have them cooked depending on your preferred flavor.

They do have a lot of food choices from the various cuisines (Japanese, Chinese, Italian, Korean, Filipino, and even Indian), apart from the staples we always see (and look forward to) in buffet restaurants. Now let me show you the food I ate during our entire dinner.

PLATE #1

I started my meal with a few slices of salmon sashimi. They have a lot of other sushi and maki available, but I opted to go with just my favorite as I had a other food in mind to devour after.

PLATE #2

My second plate had some speck ham, assorted cheeses, and smoked salmon with some capers and a slice of lemon. I was very happy with this plate as I didn't know I was craving for cold meat and cheese until I saw them on display.

PLATE #3

I was so thrilled to see a noodle station, and was really excited to order a steaming hot bowl of laksa. At the noodle station, you can choose what you want to put in your soup and what noodle you want to use, or you can let the chef decide. I had a typical laksa with laksa noodles and I loved it! It’s not really the best laksa I’ve had but it gave me the flavor and spice level I was

PLATE #4

One of the dishes I love forward to the most in buffet restaurants is STEAK. They had this huge roast beef displayed that looked more inviting than ever, so I grabbed a plate and I was served a slice. Normally, buffet restaurants heat up the steak before serving it to their guests, but that wasn't the case here. Instead, I took a cold slice of roast beef back to my table and tried it. It was a bit tough (due to it being cold, not due to the cut). So I went back and had it reheated, but by then the meat was already well done. It was still good. I just never had this kind of experience with meat with other buffet restaurants. I hope they do something about it. You don't want your guests having that kind of memory with their steak.

PLATE #5

This wasn't really my plate but the rest of us in our table shared a plate of assorted seafood with buttered garlic sauce. I had a piece of the shrimp and I liked it a lot. Way better than the bland seafood I tried from another hotel restaurant last 2018.

PLATE #6

I love the Indian cuisine but I rarely get to eat them since they are a bit expensive and always come in huge servings. So I didn't hesitate to get some of their chicken tikka masala with some naan. But the latter was too crunchy to be dipped in the masala, so I got some of the roti instead. I enjoyed it a lot that I came back for a second round.

 PLATE #6

They have a lot of desserts in here. They even have some sugar-free items, churros, a chocolate fountain, and a bunch of fruits. I was too stuffed by the end of the meal that I thought about skipping desserts, but then I kind of wanted a mango crepe with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and drizzled with chocolate sauce on top that night so I ordered one and shared it with the others. It was okay, although the crepe was a bit too thick.

By the way, drinks are included in the buffet. You can order some wine to go with your steak like I did, or you can help yourselves to some juices and milk tea (yes, they do have it here) at their refreshments station.

Overall I was really impressed with the selections they have here at Medley Buffet, and while it's true that my experience wasn't all perfect, it was also far from unpleasant, which is why I am definitely going back for a second, maybe third visit (or more?).
